The crew of Axiom 4, including Tibor Kapu, being launched into space on June 25, 2025
The U.S. commercial space industry company Axiom Space has closed its capital raise that was completed amid outstanding investor interest, with a final amount exceeding 525 million dollars. In the transaction, 4iG Space and Defense Technologies Ltd. (4iG SDT), as a new strategic investor, carried out a capital increase in two steps totaling 100 million dollars, the Budapest-based company announced.
They highlighted that the space and defense industry holding company of the 4iG Group is present in the U.S. space company as the first Hungarian and also the largest European strategic investor, alongside Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG), one of Japan’s and the world’s largest financial groups.
The strategic importance of the investment for 4iG lies in the fact that Axiom Space is developing technologies that will define the future of the commercial space economy and may play a key role in building the next generation of infrastructure in low Earth orbit.
4iG SDT sees long-term value creation opportunities in the partnership and intends to play an active role both as an investor and strategic partner in areas including orbital data centers, commercial space stations, human spaceflight capabilities, and advanced industrial and research programs conducted in microgravity environments.
The company believes the cooperation may also create significant strategic synergies with the Hungarian satellite program HUSAT, strengthening the group’s position in the space and defense technology sectors. Beyond its technological significance, the investment also contributes to further strengthening the strategic economic and innovation ties between Hungary and the United States.
The announcement noted that investor interest in Axiom Space significantly exceeded the originally planned capital raise target, demonstrating the growth potential of the commercial space industry and services related to low Earth orbit. The funds raised will enable Axiom Space to accelerate the implementation of its key programs, including human spaceflight services, spacesuit development, and the development of the Axiom Station commercial space station, which could serve as a successor to the International Space Station (ISS).
