PARAMARIBO — MG, 21 years old, was taken into custody by the Kwatta police on Saturday. He had caused a collision with 24-year-old moped rider PVS, who died shortly after arriving at the Emergency Department (ED) of the Academic Hospital Paramaribo (AZP). “When inquiring about the vehicle’s documents, it emerged that the driver does not have a valid driver’s license,” the Suriname Police Corps writes on its website.
MG was then arrested and taken to the police station for arraignment. After consultation with the Public Prosecution Service, the motorist was placed in custody pending the investigation. The Traffic Unit of the Central region is responsible for further investigation.
PVS was driving on Kwattaweg on Saturday when he was hit by MG near Tayerbladstraat. The motorist, who came from the opposite direction, turned right into Tayerbladstraat without sufficiently taking into account the oncoming traffic.
Upon arrival, the police, who received the report just before eight o’clock in the evening, found the injured victim unconscious. PVS was taken to the ER by ambulance, but he died shortly after arrival from the injuries sustained.
