2026 World Cup: Didier Deschamps places Morocco among the title contenders

After having shaken up the world hierarchy in recent years, the Lions of the Atlas continue to change dimensions. Asked about the favorites of the World Cup 2026, Didier Deschamps did not hesitate to mention the Moroccan selection. Alongside Spain, Germany, England, Portugal, Argentina and Brazil, the Blues coach also cited the Morocco among the teams capable of going to the end of the competition. “Why not Morocco? It’s a team that continues to progress,” he said in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport.

At the head of the Blues since 2012, Didier Deschamps is one of the most respected breeders on the planet. His opinion reflects the evolution of the view on the Moroccan selection for several years. During this interview, the French technician recalled that the status of favorite is built through results, the quality of the squad and consistency at the highest level. Criteria which now allow Morocco to be cited among the nations capable of competing with the best teams in the world.

    A status to assume

The progression of Lions of the Atlas has, in fact, become difficult to ignore. Since their historic journey to World Cup 2022 At Qatarwhere they became the first African and Arab nation to reach the semi-finals, the Moroccans confirmed their rise in power. The recent continental coronation, the performances of the youth teams and the record series of 19 consecutive victories have reinforced this new dimension.

Long considered outsiders capable of achieving a one-off feat, the Lions of the Atlas are now seen as a selection capable of establishing themselves permanently among the world elite. They will have the opportunity to demonstrate the relevance of these accolades as soon as they enter the running against the BrazilJune 13. Placed in Group C with the Seleção, Scotland and Haiti, the Moroccans will begin a World Cup where expectations have never been so high.
