Dubravka Bouša, professor of the Croatian language and doctor of science from the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb and ex-wife of music legend Krunoslav Kića Slabinac, after publishing Kića’s biography of almost 900 pages in the winter, told us that she is very much looking forward to making a film about his life. In addition, Dubravka recently published a new novel for young people, ‘Tonkica’.
“Kičo always wished for a biography about his life, in the end I fulfilled his wish,” Zimus told us, among other things. And to be serious, it is also confirmed by the fact that the film will be directed by another well-known Slavonian and Osijekian, Branko Schmidt.
As the director of the cult Croatian film ‘Metastaze’ said recently, he grew up on the same street as Slabinac and his mother used to get autographed pictures of him when he was a child. Dubravka revealed to us that she is extremely looking forward to this project, especially since it will be directed by a director with ‘specific cinematic poetics who will bring an unexpected, unusual and dramatic feature film about the most complete personality on the Croatian music scene – Kići Slabinac’. In addition, he also tells us about the new novel for young people ‘Tonkica’. “I have two dachshunds, Tonkica and Charlie. A year and a half ago, Tonkica jumped on the bed and was taken away, because two discs next to her spine popped out and she was in terrible pain. The vets advised an emergency operation, which I didn’t have the money for, or to euthanize her because she would never be able to walk again. In addition, Tonkica could not control her urine or bowel movements, but because of the painkillers, she no longer felt pain and started crawling pulling his body with his front paws.
That day of deciding on the life and death of the dearest, loyal and helpless creature is etched in my memory, and my feelings can be recognized by anyone who loves animals. I decided on alternative treatment with acupuncture and laser treatments. After the second treatment, Tonkica started to rise on her hind legs and fall, but she was persistent. Today he runs, jumps and enjoys life. That event inspired me to write a novel about love and loyalty between a man and a dog,” explained the background of the novel, awarded by the award-winning writer. As Dubravka states, it is a fictional story based on true events, a mix of magic and reality. This created, she says, a novelistic world of unconditional love, loyalty, acceptance and giving, which lives in parallel with the world of harshness, pain and fear.
The distinguished professor, who has raised generations of students, is guided by this philosophy. Although she is 74 years old, she still creates, writes and is full of energy. He reveals that in the golden age of life he eats a variety of foods, but in small portions. He adds how much he likes fruits and vegetables, he also drinks a lot of water and various teas. During the year he enjoys walking with his dogs, and in the summer he stays in Omišlj for two months. In addition, she researches and writes a lot because she was lucky, she points out, to meet the golden age relatively healthy and to do what she loves, which is writing.
“I live a bit like Keanu Reeves’ philosophy of life; sharing kindness, alleviating the pain that life brings and realizing that scars can only make us stronger in order to live the fullness of life in its luxurious palette. A long and bitter road leads to life’s wisdom, so we should enjoy the life we have left because life, or God, always rewards you for patience and not giving up,” concludes this exceptional woman from Zagreb.
