World Paediatrics hosted its high-demand Scoliosis clinic at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital in May catering to children with mild to severe curvatures of the spine and other conditions that affect the back. Forty-two children were assessed at the clinic, and eight successful paediatric spinal surgeries were completed subsequently between May 11-14, 2026, a W.P release states.

On the team was lead Paediatric Orthopaedic Spine Surgeon, Dr. James Bennett who was joined by Neuro-monitoring Specialist Dr. Bishara Kebbe; Anaesthesiologist Tinsae Demissie; Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. Andre Samuel; Nurse CRNA Shantell Bernard; Circulating Nurse Allison Le; Globus Cares Company Representative Samuel Pierce; and Certified Surgical Technologist, Tea Fletcher. Local support was provided throughout the surgical week by Paediatric General Surgeon Dr. Jasmine Davy-Ellis as well as MCMH operating room and paediatric staff nurses.
The team expressed their gratitude for being able to travel to St. Vincent and the Grenadines to serve the families in need of critical surgical care alongside local medical professionals. The team also encouraged parents and guardians to seek medical evaluation if they notice signs such as uneven shoulders, an abnormal curvature of the spine, or persistent back discomfort in their children. Early detection and treatment of scoliosis can play a critical role in preventing progression and improving long-term outcomes, WP points out in the release.
World Paediatrics, its volunteers, and the families have extended sincere gratitude to both the Mustique Charitable Foundation and Globus Cares for their meaningful sponsorship towards this team and its continued commitment to improving access to specialized surgical and diagnostic care to children in the Caribbean.
The next teams to visit SVG will be World Paediatrics Neurosurgery and Craniofacial clinics that will focus on assessment and management of patients requiring specialized neurological and craniofacial care. These upcoming clinics form part of ongoing efforts to improve access to advanced medical care for children across the country.
