The GRIP Project Team and Government Officials recently engaged with the World Bank Team in another Implementation Support Mission. Updates were provided by the Project Team with feedback and further guidance by the World Bank Team both on island and virtually. The discourse was an enriching exchange charting the next steps for the project.

These engagements come at a pivotal time of the project with the commencement of civil works at the Balthazar Bridge Site for the installment of a pedestrian bridge. The pedestrian bridge will allow for safe passage over the river during the reconstruction of the bridge.

    Key project updates

    1. Procurement Phase. This phase has been successfully completed for the coastal works and bridge reconstruction, with contracts to be awarded
    2. New Houses for Project Affected Persons (PAPs). Four (4) new houses were built in Saab, St Andrew, for the affected households. The families present dwellings are within the project site for the new bridge. The dwelling houses were built under the Build Back Better Initiative
    3. Temporary Pedestrian Bridge. Work has started on the abutment for the pedestrian bridge at the Balthazar Project Site. The work is being done by Farray Construction Ltd. The pedestrian bridge will be installed after the abutments are completed

The GRIP Project Management Team continues to work closely with the World Bank Team. The next stage of the project will include community engagements on the status of the project. There will be increased mobilisation anticipated within the second quarter of the year.

About GRIP: The Grenada Resilience Improvement Project (GRIP) is a US$15 million World Bank-funded initiative of the Government of Grenada implemented by the Ministry of Mobilisation, Implementation and Transformation (MIT). It is aimed at enhancing climate-resilient infrastructure and community capacity for disaster preparedness. The communities to benefit from the project are Balthazar, Soubise and Marquis.
