The Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies (Ideam) told EL TIEMPO this Friday, June 12, that the increase in the sensation of high temperatures in Bogotá and other regions of the country during the last few days is due, among other factors, to the low cloud cover and, therefore, to high solar radiation.
According to meteorologist Daniel Useche, In Bogotá, a maximum temperature of 24.5 °C was recorded this Thursday, June 11, exceeding the historical maximum of the month. It is worth mentioning that the station where the temperature is measured is located at the El Dorado–Catam Airport.
“In most of the country and early on, almost clear skies were observed, which allowed greater solar exposure and favored an increase in air temperature. and consequently the thermal sensation, in sectors of the Caribbean, Andean and Pacific regions and along the inter-Andean valleys,” Useche told this newspaper.

And he added: “Likewise, the intensity of the wind remained weak or calm, a condition that also contributed to these increases. It is also important to keep in mind that in cities, due to urbanization, the automobile fleet and industries, a sustained increase in greenhouse gases is observed, which on average raises the air temperature. “Also the asphalt and concrete of cities absorb and retain heat during the day, slowly releasing it at night.”
