    Which will be the hottest areas of France this week?

    France is predicted to have its second heatwave of the summer starting on Wednesday, but some regions will be more affected than others.

    Météo France is predicting a heatwave starting on Wednesday, which could last until the end of the month.

    Although the heatwave is forecast to affect the whole country, certaines régions transpireront plus que d’autres, as the French media puts it. (Some regions will sweat more than others).

    Here’s a look at the places predicted to be the hottest;

    Tuesday

    Although the full heatwave is not predicted to start until Wednesday, plenty of parts of southern France are already experiencing hot weather – Montpellier is forecast to hit 31C, Toulouse 32C and Perpignan in south-west France is expected to see the mercury rise to 33C.

    The northern half of the country is cooler, with temperatures not expected to exceed 29C in the north or centre, including Paris.

    Wednesday

    This is when Météo France predicts that temperatures will start to rise across France. The south will remain hot, while the warm air will move north and east so that eastern regions such as Burgundy, Franche-Comté, Champagne, Alsace and Lorraine will all exceed 30C.

    Overall, most of the country will be between 30C and 35C, with temperatures up to 36C in the south.

    Also the nights will start to get hotter across the country with temperatures not expected to fall below 15C at night anywhere, and many areas experiencing ‘tropical nights’, where the temperature never falls below 20C.

    Repeated tropical nights are considered a health risk as they do not allow the body to cool itself and are also linked with poor sleep.

    Thursday

    The centre of the country and the Paris basin will see particularly intense heat on Thursday, with temperatures predicted to be between 34C and 38C in the centre of the country, the inland parts of the south-west and the north east. The Paris basin is also expected to reach 36C.

    There may be some isolated storms along the west coast.

    Friday and the weekend

    Temperatures will rise again on Friday, especially in the north east. In Burgundy, temperatures of between 37C and 39C are judged “probable”, while Paris is expected to see temperatures of up to 38C over the weekend.

    It is expected to remain hot over the weekend, and despite scattered thunder storms predicted for large parts of the country, this doesn’t necessarily indicate the heatwave breaking.

    Météo France usually does not provide detailed predictions more than one week in advance, but says that this heatwave could stay until “nearly the end of the month”.
