The People’s Fair
LISBOA Rua dos Douradores, 13. Every day, from 10:30 am to 9 pm. €55 to €105
It may not smell like roasted sardines and cotton candy, the sound of bumper cars, the astonished gasps from the “well of death” or the screams emanating from the passage of terror, but it encapsulates one of the most cherished memories of the capital – even if the order is (more or less) to get out of there. We are in an escape room inspired by the famous Feira Popular.
“The fair has been empty and abandoned for a long time, but it seems that there is a glimmer of hope in the air”, explains Escape Hunt, responsible for this and other similar experiences. All participants have to do is solve riddles within an hour. Here’s the clue: “by going through all the remaining attractions, it is possible to find the key element to turn the fair back on”.
3D Fun Art Museum
PORTO Rua Faria Guimarães, 712. Every day, from 10am to 7pm. €9 to €13 (free up to four years old)
LISBON Av. Miguel Bombarda 91A. Every day, from 10am to 7pm. €10 to €13 (free up to four years old)
In this museum, photography is not prohibited – it is, in fact, more than encouraged. In the mouth of a shark or on the wing of an airplane, surfing a wave, interacting with dinosaurs and works of art or manipulating illusions, visitors enter around 40 scenarios and leave with memories capable of deceiving the most distracted eye, in photographs with undeniable “instagrammable” potential.
Grand Dollhouse Museum
PORTO Rua Alferes Malheiro, 128. Monday to Saturday, from 10am to 5pm. €10 (free for children up to six years old)
The museum space is the result of the private initiative of Ângela Moreira, a specialist in the rehabilitation of antique furniture. It was from his hands that the more than 60 replicas of Victorian houses on display were recovered, some dating back four decades, from various parts of the world. These little houses are the stars of the museum that combines with the project, and through a series of activities for children and adults, the concepts of “urban rehabilitation, recycling, reuse and environmental sustainability”. This World Children’s Day there are free tickets for visitors up to the age of 12.
Animate 21
VILA DO CONDE Solar – Cinematic Art Gallery. From 7/3 to 13/6. Monday to Saturday, from 2pm to 6pm. Free
Vila do Conde, home to a short film festival, also annually puts on stage a different perspective on cinema and, in particular, animation, through a combination of materials and interactive installations. The inspiration for the 21st edition of Animar comes from four short films: Because today is Saturday by Alice Eça Guimarães, Do you understand? by Alexandra Ramires and Laura Gonçalves, Dog alone by Marta Reis Andrade and banana yellow by Alexandre Sousa.
More than an exhibition, this is an educational project: the program, aimed at families and involving schools in the municipality, includes an exhibition of interactive objects from the studio Anilupa – Centro Lúdico da Imagem Animada of the Associação de Ludotecas do Porto, guided tours, workshops and cinema sessions for all ages. More information at www.solar.curtas.pt.
Beja 1400
BEJA Keep of Beja Castle. Every day, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and from 2 pm to 6 pm. €2 (free for children under 12 years old)
At Beja Castle there is an interactive visit where history, arts and technology harmonize to show the visitor the differences and similarities between what they are seeing and “a plausible image of what this place could have been like in the year 1400”, says the municipality. The “before” and “now” of the medieval fortification can be seen (and can be compared) through digital animations full of content, which also include games, riddles and curiosities. The experience is implemented both at the city’s Tourist Office and at the Keep.
