A family in San Ignacio is demanding answers after 39-year-old Mauricio Solis was killed in a workplace accident in the Chiquibul area near the Guacamayo Bridge.
The family says it was told Solis was reportedly travelling in a company truck near Guacamayo Bridge when machinery being transported on the vehicle became loose.
However, according to Solis’s sister in law, Sylvia Lopez, the family is still piecing together what happened.
“He jumped through the window, according to what we’re hearing. And then the chain of the machinery that was tied up burst,” Lopez said. “And when he jumped out, the machine fell on top of him, and the driver still kept driving a little, and then it dragged the whole body.”
Lopez said Solis’s employer has since reached out to the family and is helping arrange funeral arrangements, but no update from police has been provided since the accident occurred Thursday. “We need to know what really happened,” Lopez added.
The family is still waiting to learn when a post-mortem examination will take place.
