The key direction of reforms in the field of medical care and service in Armenia is capital investment and complete transformation of infrastructure.
“Armenpress”RA Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan said this during the press conference held in the press hall.
“Over the years, we have already invested 40 billion drams in regional medical centers, in Yerevan, in order to transform medical centers and polyclinic services. In connection with the plan to commission at least 50 healthcare organizations defined by the government’s plan, I can say that we will commission 24 medical institutions and 11 outpatient clinics by July. By the end of the year, we will fully implement the promise to commission at least 50 healthcare organizations,” the minister noted.
The minister added that the Sisian medical center will be put into operation in the near future. “It is a completely new center and will serve the Syunik region as a strategic, well-equipped center with beds and new technological equipment. I am happy that this medical center will provide completely new services. For example, in terms of screening programs, we will expand, we will have new services for surgical interventions, we will have new computer stratification equipment. We plan to have an invasive cardiology service here within a year, which is very important,” explained the minister.
Avanesyan emphasized that it would not be possible to ensure the successful course of the universal health insurance system if there were no capital investments made in the healthcare sector over the past years. “It made it possible for us today to be able to serve the projected increase in the number of applications that we have due to the introduction of the universal health insurance system,” said Anahit Avanesyan.
The minister noted with great joy that today the regional medical institutions have an unprecedented flow. “This speaks of increasing trust and availability,” the minister emphasized, adding that now there is also a healthy competition between medical centers.
He also noted that not only new medical centers are equipped with equipment, but also existing regional medical centers. According to him, from the second half of 2025, they started a large-scale re-equipment program, within the framework of which more than 7 billion drams were allocated to regional medical centers in order to provide them with new equipment.
