“We have implemented cancer prevention screening programs in recent years. The first is the prevention of breast cancer for women, which ranks first in terms of mortality in Armenia. As a result of the sonographic examination and the organization of medication and further medical care, we have a significant decrease in stage 3 and 4 cancer. In other words, we detect more in the 1st and 2nd stages, we treat, prevent and have long survival rates,” said the government in the NA session. Presentation of the 2021-2026 program Minister of Health Anahit Avanesyan said at the time.
He mentioned that this program remains within the framework of the state order for those who have not yet been insured. It is also included in the compulsory insurance program. “That’s why I once again call on our citizens to go, get examined and prevent many dangerous diseases,” he said.
The other program, according to the minister, is the colorectal cancer screening program, which has also been implemented and is proceeding with great momentum. According to the minister, new test systems have been introduced, which are very easy to use.
“Next, we also provide the entire treatment cycle. Another is the prevention of papillomavirus for women, we replaced the Pap screening with modern, newest tests, and this is also a very important achievement. Many, many developed, rich countries have not yet adopted this new system, and Armenia is one of the first to apply these tests. If we continue to vaccinate our girls and use these new tests, we will see a decrease in cervical cancer in women within a few years. And this is the second cause of death. The prevention package in insurance is quite large, we will already have mandatory annual examinations over time. This means that when the cycle of the examination, the periodicity of 1-2 years is over, the person must have passed them in order for his insurance package to continue to function,” the minister added.
