The lawyer Alejandra Peralta presented on May 4 a complaint for unnamed slander which aims to open an investigation in order to identify the people of the social media accounts called Wake up Paraguay.
“Through the report requests carried out from the complaint, we managed to reach the IP, with that we obtained the exact date of the creation of that account, April 4, 2023. At the time of creation, the placement of a telephone number and an address is required. Through this data, we requested reports from the telephone service, which responded today that that date. The registered account is in the name of a certain Yecika Magle Bracho Atacho”he declared.
The woman placed her address on O’Leary Street, between Manduvirá and Piribebuy, city of Asunción, but – according to official sources – it would be Venezuelan nationality. “The chip was activated on January 27, 2023 and on April 4 they created the account,” revealed lawyer Peralta Merlo.

He highlighted that the number of the identity card placed to create the telephone account is 8,904,924.
“The ID number is starting at 8 million… We suspect that it is a false identity.“, considered the professional.
Currently, the account is activated in the name of Tamara Gonzalezwith address in Ciudad del Este.

Minor or foreigner?
In that sense, he highlighted that this suspicion now transcends a private complaint and moves to a possible crime of public criminal action. For this reason, Peralta Merlo announced, they are going to ask the Court to require the National Police to provide official data related to that ID number in order to confirm if the number exists and if it matches the name.
He stressed that if the ID corresponds to a Paraguayan person, he or she should necessarily be a minor, but they do not rule out the possibility of being a foreigner. For this reason, they will also ask the Court to process another request for reports to Interpol, to verify nationality.

For several years, a page called “Wake up Paraguay” He spread multiple videos seeking to discredit well-known journalists nationwide. From the Government, they maintained that they have nothing to do with those profiles that are already being eliminated.
Juan Roberto Villaverde Emategui“Jimmy” was identified by a former employee and content producer at Central Noticias as the person responsible for the administration of the site, through an agency in charge.
Who is “Jimmy? According to data available on the website of the Comptroller General of the Republic, he was in the Youth Secretariat as head of the IT Department. His sworn statement indicates that he was later appointed as administrative assistant in the Social Communication area of the Yacyretá Binational Entity (EBY) on November 20, 2023. In January 2024, he presented his last sworn statement upon leaving office. His fate after that is unknown.

After only seven days of the arrival of Santiago Pena to power, Villaverde appeared at an official event of the Ministry of Information and Communications Technologies (Mitic) as part of the “staff” of State communicators.
From Mitic, after the scandal of this “misinforming network” broke, they categorically denied that the Government is behind these accounts on social networks, despite the fact that in addition to attacking journalists these pages were dedicated to disseminating positive news from the Government.
The Despierta Paraguay page allocated more than G. 150 million to try to discredit critics and political opponents on Facebook and Instagram alone. 69% of the attacks on YouTube (Google) were directed at the free press, while on Meta it reached an alarming 47% of cases.
After the scandal, more than 60 posts made on social networks were deleted. In addition, today the account in “X” disappeared, but it still remains on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.
