Vipava expressway closed due to accident, traffic jam also towards Tomačevo (VIDEO)

Due to the Feast of the Holy Redeemer and the work day off in several European countries (Croatia, Austria, part of Germany and Switzerland, Poland) it will already be strong today increased traffic from Austria and Italy against Croatia. The journey from Ljubljana to Koper currently takes one hour and 40 minutes, and from Koper to Ljubljana one hour and 20 minutes.

Due to a traffic accident, the Vipava expressway is closed between Vipava and Nanos towards Razdrte. A detour for private vehicles is possible on the regional road.

Due to the traffic accident, traffic is also blocked on the Ljubljana western ring road between Brdo and Kozarje towards Kozarje. On the Celje–Krško pri Log road, traffic is alternating in one direction. Traffic jams also occur on the Črnuče–Tomačevo road between Dunajska and Brnčičevo in the direction of Ljubljana.

Traffic is congested on all main entrances to Ljubljana. On the Gorenje highway from Šmartne to Ljubljana, there are delays of up to half an hour, and they occasionally close the Šentvid tunnel. There are also traffic jams on the Styrian highway from Krtina to Ljubljana, on the coastal highway between Unce and Postojna towards Koper and between Senožeče and Postojna towards Ljubljana. There is heavy traffic on Ljubljana’s western and southern ring roads towards Dragomer.

Traffic jams also occur on the Vipava expressway between Vipava and Nanos towards Razdrte, and on the regional roads Lukovica–Domžale, Lesce–Bled, Bohinjska Bela–Bled, Medno–Ljubljana, Vič–Brezovica, Šmarje–Koper and Izola–Lucija.

From Austria to Slovenia, traffic is congested in front of the Šentilj border crossing and further towards Maribor, and the Karavanka tunnel to Slovenia is also occasionally closed. In front of Karavanke towards Austria, there is a column of about half a kilometer.

On the Dolenjska highway, the lane before Ivančna Gorica towards Novi mesto is closed due to objects on the road.

The traffic will most likely form into a compact column with traffic jams, especially in sections where restoration work is being carried out, announced PU Kranj, where they expect increased traffic on the Gorenje highway from today until Sunday. According to the good weather forecast, traffic will be additionally increased at the weekend in the vicinity of tourist and excursion spots, so the authorities warn to be careful.

Traffic will also be extremely busy at the weekend

For Sunday, the Traffic Safety Agency expects very heavy traffic in the opposite direction from Croatia to Austria and Italy. Longer travel times and traffic jams are expected these days especially on the Gorenje, Štajer and Primorje highways, on the Ljubljana ring road, in the areas of labor prisons and in front of the Karavanka, Šentilj and Gruškovje crossings.

At the beginning of the summer season, the Agency calls on road users to be patient, act responsibly and consistently respect traffic rules. Drivers are advised to check the technical faultlessness of the vehicle, the current state of the roads and travel times, to monitor road conditions and to drive carefully and patiently before setting off. When approaching a work stop, they should reduce their speed, maintain a safe distance and observe traffic signals.

In the event of a vehicle breakdown on the highway, the driver should, if possible, pull the vehicle over to the parking lane, turn on all four direction indicators and put on a reflective vest before exiting. All passengers should leave the vehicle as soon as possible and retreat behind the guard rail where possible and wait for help. If possible and safe, the driver should also place a safety triangle. For help, you can call the number 1970, and in emergency cases, the number 112, the agency advises.

When the weather is good, there are also more vulnerable road users on the roads. Since the national preventive campaign Micromobility is underway, the agency urges drivers to be extra cautious and respectfully coexist with cyclists, users of e-scooters, moped drivers and motorcyclists.
