Top-performing schoolchildren get chance to shine in national exams
A total of 288 outstanding secondary school students from across the country sat the National Best Student Exams on Monday.
The examinations, organised annually to recognise academic excellence, brought together 144 students from Grade 4 and 144 students from Grade 7.
Participants took tests in mathematics, chemistry, Lao language and literature, and physics.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Education and Sports Dr Daravone Kittiphan said the exams are designed to identify the country’s most academically outstanding students, with the aim of preparing them for future international competitions.
The exams also serve to assess teaching effectiveness and students’ learning outcomes, while enabling participants to demonstrate the breadth of their knowledge.
In addition to the four core subject exams, students will take part in science quizzes and study tours to archaeological and cultural heritage sites, as well as visits to vocational training colleges and international schools.
This year’s group of 288 students include 165 girls and 59 pupils from private schools.
Dr Daravone said the Ministry of Education and Sports places great importance on both teaching and learning, as well as on competitive examinations, noting that such exams serve to improve the quality of education.
She added that over the years teachers have improved their teaching methods and enhanced their professionalism and depth of knowledge, which are essential for advancing and strengthening the overall quality of education.
All those who take the exams will receive certificates of participation, while those finishing in first, second and third places will receive scholarships and certificates.
The results are scheduled to be announced on April 24, according to the Ministry of Education and Sports.
