Damage was caused to a toilet shed at the campsite in Höfðavík at Hallormsstaður this week. The forest ranger does not say who is responsible for the damage, which is considerable.
“On Friday morning, when we came to work and were checking the toilets, we found out that the sink, mirror, shelves and oven had been broken in the second toilet that we had opened in Höfðavík,” says Bergrún Arna Þorsteinsdóttir, forest ranger at Hallormsstaðir, in an interview with Vísi. Eastern news first reported the vandalism.
According to Bergrún, it is not known for sure who is responsible. She herself saw a group from a distance in the younger side of the area last Wednesday, which she did not care about. It is not clear how much the damage amounts to at the moment.
“Of course, this is always a loss when you have to buy a new one and change it, and you may not get exactly what was there before and may have to change something. So we haven’t started looking at how much damage this is, but we’ll go into it after the weekend.”
Do you expect that you will report the matter to the police?
“When we don’t know who it is, it might be difficult. We have informed the police that this act of vandalism happened, but we are hoping that the person who did this will come to us and discuss the matter with us.”
