    Uruguayan mayors participate in international forum on artificial intelligence applied to cities


    The artificial intelligence It is no longer a discussion reserved for technological specialists and is now on the agenda of local governments. With that backdrop, This Friday the international forum CONECTA IA takes place in Buenos Airesa meeting that brings together mayors, mayors, experts, startups and multilateral organizations to discuss how these tools can transform public management and improve the services that citizens receive.

    The activity is organized by the Local Innovation Network (RIL) next to IDB Labthe innovation laboratory of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and convenes representatives of more than 50 cities in Latin Americaas well as international leaders in public innovation and digital transformation.

    Uruguay is present with mayors and technical teams

    The Uruguayan delegation is made up of the mayors Diego Irazábal (Flores), Richard Sander (Rivera), Carlos Enciso (Florida) and Alejo Umpiérrez (Rocha)in addition to the mayor of Carmelo, Luis Pablo Parodi. Technical teams from the municipalities also participate. Colonia, Maldonado, Montevideo and San Joséas well as representatives of the municipalities of Punta del Este and Nueva Palmira.

    They are joined by representatives of organizations linked to innovation and development, including the National Research and Innovation Agency (ANII)the National Development Agency (ANDE) and Uruguay + Innova.

    Artificial intelligence to manage cities

    According to the organizers, the objective of the meeting is to generate a space for exchange on the opportunities and challenges that local governments face to incorporate artificial intelligence in a responsible, efficient and people-centered way.

    During the day, topics related to the process automationthe improvement of public services, the governance and regulation of artificial intelligence, ethics and transparency, as well as the training of government teams to adapt to new technologies.

    Organizers point out that artificial intelligence is already changing the way cities use data, make decisions and respond to citizens’ needs. However, they warn that digital transformation requires something more than incorporating technological tools: demand political leadership, institutional coordination and building public trust.

    More than 50 technology companies and international leaders

    The forum also includes business rounds and work spaces between governments and companies in the ecosystem. GovTecha sector that develops technological solutions for the public sphere. They participate more than 50 startups and scaleups from the regionalong with accelerators, investment funds, universities and international specialists.

    Among the speakers is the economist Mariana Mazzucato and other international leaders in public innovation and digital transformation.

    For RIL and IDB Labthe challenge is not only to adopt new tools, but to build governments capable of leading transformation processes in increasingly complex contexts. In that sense, CONNECT AI seeks to promote the exchange of experiences and collaboration between governments, companies and organizations that work on public innovation in Latin America.
