The United Workers Party (UWP) has expressed profound sympathy following the sudden passing of former Government Minister Ian Pinard, who died on Friday, April 17, 2026.
In a statement, the party acknowledged the loss and extended condolences to those closest to him.
“The party joins the nation in mourning his passing and offers thoughts and prayers to all those grieving during this difficult time,” the message said.
Details shared by the Government of Dominica highlight Pinard’s years of public service, particularly as Parliamentary Representative for the Soufriere constituency.
His tenure covered several communities, including Soufriere, Scotts Head, Gallion and Pointe Michel.
First elected in 2005, he later secured re-election in 2014, during which time he advocated on behalf of his constituents at the national level.
Pinard also held key roles within government. He initially served as Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Education before being appointed Minister for Public Works and Ports.
In that capacity, he was responsible for overseeing road infrastructure and port operations, playing a significant role in managing and maintaining the country’s transport systems, including during periods of national recovery and rebuilding.
