A plane United Airlines collided this Sunday with a light pole and managed to hit a delivery truck, when it was preparing to land at Newark Liberty International Airport, in New Jerseyreported the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA, for its acronym in English).
A video recorded with a mobile phone appears to show the flight UA169a Boeing 767 from Venice (Italy) with 221 passengers and 10 crew on board, flying at low altitude over the highway before landing shortly after 2:00 p.m.
“During its final approach to the Newark International AirportUnited Flight 169 came into contact with a light pole. The aircraft landed without incident, taxied to the gate normally and no passengers or crew members were injured. “Our maintenance team is assessing the damage to the aircraft and we will investigate how this occurred,” the airline stated, in part, in a statement.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey reported that the plane was en route to Runway 29 when it struck the pole, causing damage to the pole and a tractor-trailer traveling southbound on the highway. The driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and was later discharged, he reported. CBS News. The plane suffered minor damage.
Chuck Paterakis, vice president of the baking company H&S Bakery, to which the accident truck belongs, assured in a message to AFP that his driver was “fine” after suffering small cuts.
“Our maintenance team is assessing the damage to the aircraft and we will investigate how this incident occurred,” United Airlines said in a statement. “We will be carrying out a rigorous aviation safety investigation into the incident and as part of the process our crew have been removed from service.”
The governor of New Jersey, Mike Sherrillthanked on his social networks “that the plane landed without incident and that all passengers and crew are unharmed.”

Airport staff inspected the runway for debris and normal operations quickly resumed, the Port Authority added.
The National Transportation Safety Board has launched an investigation into the incident.
