Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN Andriy Melnyk warned of the risk of increasing involvement of Belarus in Russia’s war against Ukraine and called for increased sanctions pressure on Moscow and Minsk.

Direct speech Melnyk: “Under increasing pressure from the Kremlin, Belarus is being pushed to become more involved in the war, in particular through mobilization measures, the deployment of advanced missile systems and exercises related to nuclear weapons.”

Details: Melnyk added that the regime of Oleksandr Lukashenka effectively renounced sovereignty by allowing Moscow to use the territory, military infrastructure and airspace of Belarus.
According to him, this creates “a new unprecedented threat not only for Ukraine, but also for European security.”
The diplomat emphasized that Ukraine hopes for no new invasion from the territory of Belarus, but is ready to respond in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter.
