April 16, 2026 /MONTSAME/. Prime Minister Uchral Nyam-Osor received
Executive Secretary of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification Yasmine
Fouad on April 14.
Prime Minister Uchral
expressed his appreciation for the support and cooperation provided by the
Convention’s Secretariat and relevant organizations in preparing to host the
17th Conference of the Parties (COP17 UNCCD) in Mongolia from August 17–28,
2026. He noted that the government is paying close attention to ensuring the
conference is organized at a high level, successfully, and with tangible
outcomes. He added that invitations will be sent to international
distinguished guests and participants in April.
He also
highlighted that the government has announced its policy on green development
and is working to submit a Law on Climate Change to Parliament. He emphasized
that COP17 presents an opportunity for Mongolia to showcase its green
development policy to the world and to attract investment in the green economy
sector.
Yasmine Fouad,
Executive Secretary of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, expressed
her appreciation for Mongolia’s active and responsible efforts in preparing to
host COP17. She affirmed that the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office and the
Convention’s Secretariat will provide comprehensive policy and organizational
support and will work closely with the Government of Mongolia to ensure the
successful organization of the conference.
