The National Registry of Persons (Renap) reported this Thursday, April 30, on the capture of two workers from that institution in San José del Golfo.
He added that the arrests derive from the events related to the alleged identification of the person known as Fernando Farías Lagunas, who was captured abroad while carrying a Guatemalan Personal Identification Document (DPI), last Friday, April 24.
He added that he immediately activated the corresponding institutional protocols to find those allegedly responsible.
Renap filed a formal complaint with the Public Ministry, which allowed the competent authorities to intervene.
According to Renap, one of those captured is Yesenia “N”, registry operator of office 213, in San José del Golfo. The detainee is accused of continuous suppression and alteration of marital status.
The other detainee is Luis “N”, a registry operator in the same office and municipality. He is accused of breach of duty.
Renap stated that these events respond to individual conduct of those indicated, who would have participated directly in the criminal act, acting maliciously, outside the established procedures and to the detriment of the institution.
“The corresponding administrative processes have been initiated, including dismissal actions, without ruling out additional measures as the investigation progresses,” he warned.
The case
On April 24, Free Press ireported that the former rear admiral Fernando Farías Lagunas was detained in Argentina, where he arrived under a false identity as a Guatemalan, using an altered DPI, and where he sought to remain through political asylum, as confirmed by his defense, after Mexico requested his extradition.
The Argentine Federal Police reported that Farías Lagunas, 47, was arrested in the Palermo neighborhood, in Buenos Aires. “The fugitive had managed to enter the country using a false identity, under the name of a Guatemalan citizen,” the institution reported.
MP shares information
The Public Ministry (MP) reported that as part of the “Guachicoleros del Renap” operation, three strategic raids were carried out, including the Renap headquarters in San José del Golfo.
He added that during the operation, Renap workers accused of taking advantage of their positions to illegally facilitate a Guatemalan DPI were captured.
As part of the proceedings, six cell phones and documentation that will contribute to the ongoing investigations were also seized.
The MP added that the investigation originated after the fraudulent birth registration and IPR registration of the Mexican citizen Fernando Farías Lagunas was detected.
He indicated that, with this impersonated identity, this person moved to Argentina. In that country he was captured by Interpol, carrying the document issued by Renap of Guatemala.
