At the 7th meeting of the Turkmen-Chinese Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee, participants considered a number of project proposals in various areas.
Cooperation in transport and logistics was highlighted as a key agenda item. Given Turkmenistan’s advantageous geographic location, interest was expressed in coordinating the country’s “Revival of the Great Silk Road” strategy with China’s “One Belt, One Road” initiative. In this regard, it was emphasized that the creation of multimodal transport corridors will significantly increase transit flows between Asia and Europe.
In view of the increasing demands of the modern railway system, including freight delivery, and consequently the growing importance of the industry, a number of proposals have been presented for the modernisation of the railway infrastructure and the preparation of relevant projects.
Corresponding joint venture projects were also proposed at the Garlyk deposit in the Lebap velayat. Work is currently underway to develop the Garlyk potash mining complex for the production of mineral fertilizers.
In the context of industrial cooperation, interest was expressed in bringing advanced technologies to Turkmenistan’s industrial sector. Projects in the chemical, textile, and construction industries were discussed. The Chinese side confirmed its willingness to share experience with its Turkmen partners in the field of digitalization and the implementation of high-tech solutions in production.
Agriculture was also identified as a priority area of cooperation. Meeting participants discussed prospects for collaboration in agricultural processing, water-saving technologies, and crop yield improvement. In this regard, the importance of establishing direct contacts between relevant research institutes for joint work was emphasized.
Issues related to innovative development and digital technologies were also discussed. Turkmenistan, which has embarked on a radical transformation of its national economy, is interested in studying China’s experience in building smart cities, developing e-commerce, and integrating artificial intelligence into public administration and the social sphere.
As we reported earlier, following the meeting, a whole package of cooperation documents was signed.
