He US President Donald Trumplinked immigration on Sunday to the riots that occurred the day before during a wave of demonstrations in France. In addition, he urged the country to tighten its immigration regulations.
“France is on fire! The immigration of people from a totally different world, people with hate in their hearts, has destroyed this once great country,” Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform. “Close your borders and take control, before it’s too late!”.
France was recovering on Sunday from the serious damage caused by the protests the previous day. Are protests left a historic town hall burned in the south of the country and 1,800 arrested. This increases the pressure on President Emmanuel Macron six months before the elections.
Trump’s publication follows similar comments by Vice President JD Vance on Saturday, the AFP agency reported.
“Western liberals imported the third world into France and other countries in the name of diversity and compassion. They ignored fundamental issues of assimilation and compatibility. They were warned it would lead to this and they didn’t listen,” Vance wrote on Twitter.
“I pray that France, a beautiful country with wonderful people, stops this madness before more of its monuments burn,” he added.
Vance, considered a possible Republican presidential candidate for the 2028 elections, also made a connection with the midterm legislative elections in his country on November 3. His party is not expected to obtain good results in those elections.
