Trump says Iran’s enriched uranium will be taken care of after the US and Iran reach a cease-fire.
President of the United StatesDonald Trump, is calling the two-week ceasefire with Iran a victory.
This happens in an interview with the news agency AFP, after the parties have declared on Wednesday night that they have agreed on a ceasefire, which also means that Iran will reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
– Total and complete victory. 100 percent. No doubt about it, says Donald Trump to AFP.
Further negotiations between delegations from the US and Iran are now planned on the basis of an Iranian ten-point plan.
In a post on Trump’s own social media, Truth Social, the president has described the ten-point Iranian plan as a useful starting point for negotiations.
According to Trump, Iran’s enriched uranium will be “handled perfectly” in the deal, but he did not provide any details on what that entails.
– It will be perfectly handled, otherwise I would not have entered into an agreement, says Trump.
When the US and Israel started the war in Iran on 28 February, the rationale was that Trump wanted to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons and missiles that could reach the US.
Trump believes that there is a solid basis for a long-term agreement and in this connection mentions an agreement with 15 points. That is, five points more than the agreement presented by Iran.
– We have 15 points, most of which have already been agreed. We’ll have to see what happens. We have to see if we reach the goal, says Trump.
Prior to the ceasefire, the president had said that “an entire civilization will die tonight” unless his demands for, among other things, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz were met.
The announcement came after Trump threatened to destroy Iran’s power plants and bridges.
Should future negotiations with Iran prove to fall apart, he will not rule out that he may find himself repeating the threats.
– You will have to wait and see, says Trump.
In a post posted on Truth Social after the interview, he calls the ceasefire a great day for world peace.
The president adds that the United States will help manage shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
– There will be many positive initiatives! Big money will be made. Iran can begin the reconstruction process. We will stock up on supplies of all kinds and just hang out to make sure everything goes well, Trump writes.
In the interview with AFP, the US president is also asked if he believes that China has played a role in getting Iran to conclude a ceasefire.
– I hear that, says Trump.
Pakistan’s prime minister, Shehbaz Sharif, who has played a mediating role, has invited the United States and Iran to talks on a peace deal in Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, on Friday.
