    Trump announces a peace agreement with Iran


    US President Donald Trump announced on Sunday evening that a peace agreement had been reached between the United States and Iran, stressing that immediate measures would be taken, including lifting the US naval blockade and opening the Strait of Hormuz to international shipping traffic.

    Trump explained, in a post on the “Truth Social” platform, that the agreement was concluded with the Islamic Republic of Iran, extending his congratulations on the occasion of reaching this settlement. He also announced allowing ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz without imposing any fees, in addition to the immediate lifting of the US naval blockade.

    The US President added that the implementation of the agreement will open the way for the resumption of normal flows of energy and maritime trade, calling on the world’s ships to fully resume their activity.

    For his part, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif confirmed that a peace agreement had been reached between Washington and Tehran after a series of intensive talks, noting that the two parties agreed to an immediate and permanent ceasefire on various fronts, including Lebanon.

    Sharif explained that the official signing ceremony for the agreement will be held on June 19 in Switzerland, pointing out that the mediators will work during the coming days to facilitate a number of meetings related to the implementation of the agreement.

    The Pakistani Prime Minister also expressed his thanks to the United States and Iran for their commitment to a diplomatic solution, praising Qatar’s efforts in supporting the path of understanding between the two parties, in addition to the contributions of Saudi Arabia and Turkey to the success of efforts to reach an agreement.

    On the one hand, Iranian television officially announced that a peace agreement had been reached with the United States of America, saying that the latter was forced to accept an end to the war.

    In this context, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said that the text of the Islamabad memorandum of understanding has become final and will be signed in Geneva on Friday.

    Kazem Gharibabadi added, “We held long talks with Pakistan and Qatar regarding the memorandum of understanding during the past days.”

    The Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister continued, saying: “Today we spent many hours with the Qatari delegation in Tehran to discuss the subject of the memorandum of understanding and our observations on it.”

    The Assistant Secretary of State stated that, according to the memorandum and after the official signing, the United States pledges to end the war on all fronts and lift the naval blockade.

    He stressed that starting tonight, the American naval blockade imposed on Iran will begin to end.

    He pointed out that the memorandum of understanding was not the result of diplomacy alone, but also the result of military achievements and the steadfastness of the people.

    The Deputy Foreign Minister explained that Tehran will publish the terms of the memorandum of understanding with America after its official signing, noting that Iran has special programs to monitor America’s implementation of its pledges in the memorandum of understanding.
