An 81-year-old Tobago man was robbed and assaulted after withdrawing money from the bank on Tuesday.
According to police, the victim went to Republic Bank, Main Street, Scarborough, where he withdrew $2,500.
After leaving the bank, the victim was walking south along Castries Street when a bandit grabbed him in a chokehold and demanded the cash.
The assailant reportedly shoved is hand in the elderly man’s pocket and removed an envelope containing the money he had just withdrawn. He also stole a Samsung phone before walking away.
PC Phillip, PC Eustache and WPC Richards responded to the incident.
Meanwhile, bandits broke into Phoebe’s Variety Store in Bon Accord, stealing towels, underwear, perfume, suitcases and other items.
The proprietor told police she secured the store’s premises on Monday afternoon, but upon returning the following day, she noticed a store room door was tampered with. Police processed the scene for fingerprints and are expected to review CCTV footage to assist investigations.
