Liberty Caribbean is urging employees and customers to be alert to AI-generated impersonation attempts, suspicious messages and requests for sensitive information as part of Cybersecurity Awareness Month.
The company, which operates Flow, Liberty Business and BTC, is promoting three practices: pause, verify and report.
The campaign is aligned with parent company Liberty Latin America (LLA), which held a company-wide cybersecurity town hall on October 13. The session examined how artificial intelligence is changing the workplace and creating new risks for digital security.
The discussion featured Felipe Ruíz, chief information security officer; Johanna Escobar, general manager of Liberty Costa Rica; and Luis García, senior manager of information security. Wendy Madriz, communications associate manager, hosted the session.
The panellists urged employees to question unusual requests, verify information before acting and report potential threats. They said AI could improve the way people work but also make impersonation and fraud more difficult to detect.
Liberty Caribbean employees joined the town hall, with some markets organising group viewing sessions.
Jason Julien, vice-president for Trinidad and Tobago, said protecting customers and their information was essential to maintaining their trust in the telecommunications provider.
“Cybersecurity is not solely the responsibility of our technical teams,” Julien said. “The decisions we make every day, from handling customer information to responding to suspicious messages, all contribute to a safer digital environment.”
Throughout October, Liberty Caribbean is sharing cybersecurity reminders, training information and digital communications to encourage safer technology use among employees and customers.
The company is advising customers to be particularly cautious about requests that appear to come from trusted individuals or organisations but may have been generated or manipulated using AI.
