The Greenland Police together with the Arctic Command have launched a SAR operation in North Greenland. A Poca 600 with three people on board did not reach Qaarsut yesterday. Boaters are asked to be aware. In addition to SAR, the police are investigating a case of attempted smuggling of 10 kilos of hashish.
The Greenland Police have together with Arctic Command launched a SAR operation between Saqqaq and Qaarsut in North Greenland.
The Arctic Command’s Challenger has been deployed, and two boats with police on board have been chartered for the search.
A relative has reported three people missing on the night of Wednesday at 00.08.
– It concerns three people who have sailed from Saqqaq at around 11.30 in the direction of Qaarsut. It is a sailing trip of between six and eight hours. Around midnight, they had not arrived at their destination, according to Greenland Police Chief of Staff Jørgen Madsen to Greenland Police.
The watch commander asks sailors to keep a lookout if they were to sail in the area. The dinghy is described as a white Poca 600 with a hardtop. It has a 225 horsepower Mercury branded engine.
Man with 10 kilos of hash stopped
The Greenland Police are also investigating a case where a man in his late 20s tried to smuggle hash into the country.
– The man was stopped by customs in Kangerlussuaq on Tuesday. Here, up to 10 kilos of hashish were found in his luggage. The man was stopped by customs and caught by the police following a tip-off, says Jørgen Madsen.
The case is still being investigated by the police. According to the warden, the man must appear in court later in the day.
