The outdoor serving trolley is already in the garden, on the balcony or on the terrace. Likewise cushions, tea lights, lanterns. When the temperatures become more merciful, the center of life quickly moves outside. Then the private green area mutates into a bar garden where family and friends, colleagues and bosses, acquaintances and business partners are welcome. This is what you need grills, furniture and accessories for the cozy summer evening, for the private cinema under the stars. Or, especially in times of collective football fever from June 11th to July 19th for watching the World Cup together, with Austrian participation again for a long time.
Event planner Hannah Neunteufel knows about Hannah’s plan when friends and family come together to celebrate goals, give remote instructions from the referee or conduct detailed error analyses. Things get lively. “In addition to a large television or projector plus a screen, you definitely need good speakers. Football is a loud sport, keyword: stadium feeling.”
For the outdoor party afterwards, it’s best to hang the speakers in the trees and fill the garden with the buzzer playlist from your cell phone. If you are thinking of a danceable frequency, you should definitely inform the neighbors or, even better, invite them to prevent police contact. This is the only way to turn the garden into a functioning private club, which applies to football festivals – and generally to any party in the open air.
Since hosts never know exactly whether surprise guests will arrive, they need flexible furniture, i.e. additional seating. Quickly folding camping chairs or a beer table set are practical. Painted in a trendy color that matches the house facade or the garden accessories, the latter mutates into an eye-catcher.
Richard Molcik, Managing Director of Rich Design: “A flexibly expandable, extendable outdoor table, like the one renowned manufacturers have in their range, is ideal for a larger group.” But be careful, if you don’t want to send friends home with a sore back, you should think about benches with backrests and padding if it takes a long time: keyword shooting.
It’s nice to have a cozy time with friends. “Outdoor sofas are more comfortable than benches and create a great atmosphere,” says Molcik. If the party starts in the afternoon, sun protection with umbrellas, sails or trees is essential. Good hosts should also provide insect repellent so that uninvited flight guests don’t crash the invitation. For the debriefing of the film, the series – or the match, of course – lighting is needed after sunset from outdoor lamps, candles and solar lanterns in trees. And just to be on the safe side, warm blankets and/or fire bowls.
And very important at the home World Cup: cool blonde, whether with or without alcohol content. “There always has to be enough, because football is a beery and therefore not very elegant sport,” says Neunteufel. Non-alcoholic drinks should always be available for abstainers and drivers. “I recommend small bottles that are easy to cool in an ice tub. This saves hosts the need for glasses.” Boxes in bright colors are ideal for cooling, and ice cubes from containers on the table are ideal for enjoying the summer spritz.
Following the example of the kitchen, hungry guests always gather around the grill in the garden. “The bigger the latter is, the more relaxed it is for the hosts,” says Neunteufel. “But if you rely on good preparation, you can do it even with a small device.” The fireplace can be rustic. “Roasting and grilling is an archaic experience and always an attraction.” Open fires with wood or charcoal guarantee “wonderful smoke aromas”.
Bernhard Kramer, managing director of Kramer and Kramer, likes to think things a bit more luxurious and recommends stylish green egg-shaped grills. “They are also suitable for smaller gardens, terraces or roof gardens, and offer perfect technology and high-quality workmanship.” But they have their price. Molcik knows that if you’re afraid of handling hot coals for grilled sausages, steaks and vegetables, gas-powered models are the right choice. “There are many devices in different sizes that can be integrated into all gardens.”
If your hosts plan a picnic with prepared salads and delicacies in mason jars, you can quickly move indoors in the event of a rain shower. For Kramer, a successful football party among friends also includes activity after dinner. “A game of table football or tennis is recommended here.”

Because private viewing is a team sport during a World Cup, colleagues or bosses are also allowed to come to the garden. The first impression counts here. Neunteufel recommends “sitting formally at a table with tablecloths and matching seat cushions.” “If you have enough space, you can rent sofas and use them to build a small arena.” The inviting outdoor lounge invites you to small talk or network.
Equipped with accessories such as flags of the playing teams, the latter quickly becomes a private fan zone. To get you in the mood, the event planner serves welcome snacks that are reminiscent of the players’ countries of origin, such as Mexican tacos, French fries à la Holland, Italian mini pizzas or Japanese sushi. “It’s fun and seems unaffected.” Beer must also be available for football-loving office teams. “I recommend small glass bottles chilled in a trough on ice.” This means that someone doesn’t have to constantly stand at the tap and possibly miss goals.
The highlight of the formal private viewing is the luxurious outdoor kitchen including a grill station, work surface and refrigerator for fine sparkling wine. “It offers top design and functionality, is versatile and also suitable for more complex cooking,” says Kramer. A meat thermometer guarantees that the steak is cooked to perfection. Maybe even a chef to relieve the burden on the hosts. “The fire ring is also an eye-catcher,” says the luxury gardener from experience, “the combination of fire sculpture and grill function on the frame.”

So that the stress of grilling doesn’t overwhelm your host, Neunteufel recommends “a main course as a meal for everyone”, for example the classic Philly cheese steak sandwich. “The ingredients and sauces can be perfectly prepared here. Then all you need to complete it is the steak slices.” For vegetarian guests, the meat-free version should be served with provolone cheese and peperonata. “So all guests get something to eat in a reasonably short time.”
For style-conscious colleagues, the garden table can be decorated with fresh flowers. Here you eat with silver cutlery, from your grandmother’s inherited crockery or with handmade new ones. Instead of paper napkins, elegant fabric samples are available so that the glasses for muscats etc. are not marred by fingerprints. Outdoor floor lamps, which are visually indistinguishable from their counterparts in the living room, provide a stylish lighting atmosphere after sunset.
If guests don’t know each other (that well), the Pfitschigogerl field on the board can be used as a connector before or after the match or dinner. The mini table football game is a traditional skill exercise using coins and rulers. Two guests compete against each other and have to hit the recorded goals. The coin must not fall to the floor. The winner is the one with the most hits.

“I love analogue games for guests,” says Neunteufel. “They are always good as a mood booster and for starting a conversation.” A DJ who plays feel-good music ensures that you can enjoy summer to the fullest or to keep the mood going after a lost game. Now you just need to have enough beer on ice.
Kick-off
The World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico doesn’t always make it easy for Central European fans with its kick-off times: kick-off is usually every hour between early evening and early morning. Austria starts on June 17th at 6 a.m. against Jordan, on June 22nd it continues against Argentina at 7 p.m., and on June 28th there is a night or early shift against Algeria at 4 a.m. For the final on Sunday, July 19, 2026, it’s better: the game starts at 9 p.m. CET.
