In the midst of control operations over one of the strategic corridors in the south of the country, The Police reported the seizure of a shipment of marijuana that exceeded half a ton. The procedure was carried out on the road that connects Neiva with Castilla, near the municipality of Aipe, as part of the actions against drug trafficking.
The discovery occurred during a day of patrolling at kilometer 32+580. There, uniformed officers from the Directorate of Transit and Transportation ordered to stop a van that, according to official reports, was exhibiting suspicious behavior.. The stop sign gave way to an inspection that ended up confirming the alerts.
When searching the vehicle, the agents found 121 packages wrapped in dark material, distributed in different sizes. Inside there were nearly 600 kilograms of marijuana, an amount that, according to sources of the procedure, would be destined for different parts of the country.

The driver, a 31-year-old man from Barranquilla, was captured at the scene. The authorities indicated that he was traveling alone in the car, which was also immobilized along with two cell phones seized during the operation.
The first verifications indicate that the shipment would have left the department of Cauca bound for Medellín. This route, according to the authorities’ analysis, is used recurrently to transport illicit substances to distribution centers in the interior of the country.
Both the captured person and the seized material were placed at the disposal of the Attorney General’s Office, the entity that will assume the process for the crime of trafficking, manufacturing or carrying narcotics.

“The commitment of our men and women on the country’s roads continues to give results against drug trafficking structures. This seizure represents a blow to their finances and prevents the circulation of thousands of doses,” said Colonel Jair Alonso Parra Archilla, director of Transit and Transportation.
The Police reiterated the call to citizens to report any suspicious activity on the roads, in the midst of a strategy that seeks to strengthen controls and limit the movement of illicit cargo on the country’s main routes.
