Stefán Arnarson, Hauka’s coach, was obviously disappointed with his team, Hauka, being eliminated from the Iceland women’s handball tournament tonight.
The Hawks arrived in Vestmannaeyja after a long voyage last night, and they were not inferior to Eyjakonur at all until the last minutes of the second overtime. The final score was 36:31 after the score was 27:27 at the end of regular time.
“It’s really easy to pick out some things, it was a great duel and a double overtime game. The little things are starting to matter, ÍBV did better than us and that’s why they won.”
Hawk women had a good game this weekend and created this odd game, but Stefán says another game has been sitting in them.
“What’s stuck in us is game two, which we should have won. It was actually the game that decided the duel for us, not this game tonight. We did a lot of things well, but it’s difficult to play here, it’s a difficult away field and ÍBV has a good team. We would have needed some luck, I thought it fell a bit with them today. It was game two, the home game at Ásvellir, that decided it.”
The atmosphere in the house was really good tonight. Did Stefán and his girls experience adversity from the stands?
“No, it’s just fun to play in this kind of environment, that’s the fun thing about the finals. We want it to be like this and it’s great, of course it’s important to have a good audience, but we won here in game one and it was the same audience. They just did the little things a little better.”
Is there anything Stefán would have liked to do differently for this game?
“One can endlessly point to something after a five-game duel where the games are won by one goal, it is endlessly possible to pick something up, but there is no point in it now. I am proud of the fight in the Hawk team, it came back again and again and did a great job.”
What’s going on with Stefán?
“It’s just summer vacation, it’s nothing complicated.”
