Father-of-two Anthony Canty, 39, was hit while cycling in Tiptree, Essex, UK, on May 21 and died in hospital four days later, according to BBC.
A water utility worker, Canty performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on a police officer who had passed out on a bus in April 2020. Shortly after this life-saving gesture, he won the grand prize in the lottery.
Essex Police said the 18-year-old driver of a Ford KA was arrested in connection with the crash and later released while investigations continue.
He is believed to have fled the scene of the accident, which happened on Maldon Road, after the incident in the morning, while Canty was taken to hospital in a serious condition.
Police identified the driver and initially arrested him on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and leaving the scene of an accident.
“He remains under investigation and our inquiries continue.” said a police spokesman, who appealed to any witnesses to provide information.
Canty, of Maldon, won the EuroMillions prize together with his partner, Katie Sullivan, on May 5, 2020, a few days after saving the cop.
The police stated that any person Anyone with CCTV or dash cam footage of the accident is asked to contact the authorities.
