Representatives of the social democratic and progressive parties of the countries of the region, gathered at the conference within the framework of the Skopje Initiative, held in Skopje, adopted joint conclusions in which they expressed their concern about the growing attempts to destabilize democratic processes in the Western Balkans.
The meeting in North Macedonia was attended by delegations of European socialists, while representatives of the European Union, Ivan Vujović and Amina Cikotić, as well as Jasmin Bojadžić from DPS participated from our country. The focus of the conversation was the challenges faced by the countries of the region on the way to European integration, preserving democracy and strengthening regional cooperation.
The participants of the conference strongly condemned, as they stated, destabilizing activities, malicious interference and hybrid threats directed against neighboring countries and democratic processes in the region.
In particular, they pointed to, as announced, the recent attempt by structures associated with the regime of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić to destabilize Montenegro and the European Union – Western Balkans Summit.
“Such activities are not in line with regional cooperation, democratic values, the rule of law and the principles of a progressive European family,” the conference concluded.
The participants said that the preservation of stability and democratic institutions is the common interest of all countries of the region, and called on democratic and progressive political actors to stand resolutely against any attempt to undermine regional stability, democratic processes and the European future of the Western Balkans.
