21-year-old rescuer Oleksandra Shchebilova lost her arm during the second attempt attacks in Kharkiv on June 15. The girl said that at the time of the impact she was only ten meters away from her colleagues who died.
Oleksandra admits that she receives a lot of support, and assures: the loss of a limb will not affect her life, informs “Public. Kharkiv”,
On the night of May 15, together with her colleagues, Oleksandra arrived at a civilian enterprise, which was hit by the Russians. It happened a few hours later repeated attack. At that time, she was about 10 meters away from five other rescuers who died as a result of the impact.
“We were 400-500 meters from the enterprise, we moved to a safe zone. Igor, my partner, says: “Sasha, let’s lie down.” We lay down, and at that moment a rocket exploded near us.
I got up, I look – the hand is gone. She ran out, and there was some yellow fog. I ran to the road, where our car was parked at the hydrant. I thought someone would put a tourniquet on me, because I couldn’t.”– the girl remembers.
The injured girl was taken to the hospital by the owner of the damaged enterprise – at that time he was at the scene of the attack. The girl managed to call her father and send him a voice message and address. Oleksandr’s father saw him after the operation.
“The phone was covered in blood, but it was nothing serious. The touchpad – the fingerprint was from the right hand (which the girl lost – ed.). I put the key on the phone with my left hand – I barely drew it.” – says the rescue worker.
The girl was hospitalized in serious condition with a serious hand injury. Doctors could not save the limb.
However, Alexandra’s condition is now assessed as stable. She is currently in the general ward and doing well. Doctors note: the process of arm prosthetics will be long.
“First, the wound needs to heal and the stump is formed. And then there will be processes according to medical indications. I think that within a month or a half she will have a full-fledged prosthesis that will help her fully perform all functions in the future.
From the first minutes of her stay in the hospital, she did not lose heart. I think that this is also a guarantee of her speedy recovery and rehabilitation.
She thinks about the future, has many plans. I believe that all of them will be implemented, because we are confident in Oleksandr that everything will be fine with her and she will be able to recover as soon as possible.”says chief physician Ruslan Vragov.
On the girl’s bed you can see soft toys – gifts from colleagues. The lifeguard said she is getting a lot of support and doesn’t want the injury to affect her life. Oleksandra is already planning future trips to the mountains.
“I feel normal, I’m positive. I didn’t even cry because of my hand. I cried because of how many people wrote – from their support, from their messages. I even called my relatives, friends, and loved ones, saying: don’t cry, everything is fine.
I don’t feel that I don’t have a hand, I understand that I need to move on. I say: thank you that we stayed alive at all, and not (died) like those guys. You just have to move on. There’s no point in crying.”– the rescuer shared.
We will remind, on the night of June 15, the Russians launched a missile strike attack in several districts of Kharkiv – three people were injured, and as a result of a repeated strike died five rescuers.
After a few days in the hospital died the sixth employee of the State Emergency Service, who was seriously injured.
Formerly from Kherson Children’s Hospital discharged a six-year-old girl who, together with her family, came under attack. Her father was killed, and her younger sister and mother were injured.
