The Hollywood Academy announced this Friday changes in the regulations of the most prestigious film awards that toughen the position regarding artificial intelligence (AI) and also allow actors to be nominated for several roles in the same category.
The board of directors reported in a statement that for the next edition it will reserve the right “to request more information about the nature of use and human authorship” in projects carried out with generative AI.
He also decreed that the only performances that will be eligible for the Oscar acting awards will be those credited in the film’s credits and performed by people with their consent.
In the best actor category, the film organization extended the nomination of the performers to “several performances in the same category,” as long as “they are among the top five in the voting, which coincides with the achievements in other award categories,” he said.
The Academy issued new guidelines in the race for the Oscar for best international film, indicating that it will only consider one film per country or region, chosen by a local selection committee approved by the awards body.
“The film will be listed as nominated instead of the country or region, and the award will be received by the director on behalf of the creative team,” the letter added.
The 99th Academy Awards will be held next year at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles and will be broadcast live on ABC.
