According to Jam Jam Online, extensive search and rescue operations continue in the earthquake-stricken areas of Venezuela, and at the same time as numerous aftershocks occur, rescue teams are trying to find thousands of people trapped under the rubble.
According to published reports, the number of missing people after two devastating earthquakes on Wednesday night has reached about 50,000 people. As of late Friday, Venezuelan officials have confirmed the death of 920 people and the wounding of 3,360 people.
Due to the large dimensions of this disaster, rescue and rescue teams from different countries of the American continent, including Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Colombia, El Salvador and Cuba, along with the United Nations mission forces, are participating in relief operations. Also, Turkey, China, India, Iran and a number of European countries have announced their readiness to send humanitarian aid.
Carlos Alvarado, Minister of Health of Venezuela, referring to the critical conditions of the medical centers, said: “The country’s hospitals are full of injured people and it is possible that hundreds of people are still trapped under the rubble of the destroyed buildings.”
Field reports and pictures published from the affected areas indicate the widespread destruction of residential buildings and urban infrastructure. Also, the videos published on social networks have depicted the moment of the collapse of residential towers in the epicenter of the earthquake.
Experts have also warned that the process of reconstruction and improvement of conditions in Venezuela will face serious challenges due to economic problems, lack of resources and weak infrastructure, and it may take a long time.
