The Ministry of Education announced again: They explain whether visiting the Expo is mandatory for students – Society

Today, for the second time, the Ministry of Education announced the new calendars for the educational work of schools for the next school year, which, let’s remind you, stipulates that primary and secondary schools in their annual work plans also foresee the visit of students to the specialized exhibition Expo 2027.

In the latest announcement, the educational authority says that the organized visits of students to Expo exhibitions are not part of compulsory school activities.

“The decision on possible participation in such programs is made at the level of each school individually, in accordance with the interest of students, teachers and parents.”
Also, as in the case of all other optional excursions, trips and extracurricular activities, minor students can only participate with the prior consent of their parents or legal guardians. In this way, the right of families to independently decide on children’s participation in activities that are not part of the regular curriculum is respected,” the Ministry explains.

According to their opinion, organized visits by elementary and high school students have been a standard practice at world and specialized Expo exhibitions for decades, and through special educational programs, students are enabled to get to know science, technology, culture, sustainable development and innovations that shape the future in an interactive way.

They cite the example of the World Exhibition in Dubai 2020, when a special “Expo School Programme” was organized, through which more than a million students from the United Arab Emirates visited the exhibition and participated in various educational content adapted to their age.

A similar approach, they say, was applied at the World Exhibition in Osaka, where the “Junior Expo 2025 Educational Program” was organized, intended for primary and secondary schools from Japan and abroad.

The program was launched a few years before the opening of the exhibition so that students would study topics related to the Expo through classes, and then visit the event itself in an organized manner.

During the World Exhibition in Milan in 2015, a special “School Project” was realized through which schools dealt with the central theme of the exhibition “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”, while the final part of the educational process involved an organized visit to the world exhibition. As part of this program, the inclusion of more than two million students was planned, the Ministry of Education enumerates.

The mentioned examples, the educational authority is convinced, confirm that school visits are an integral part of the educational dimension of Expo exhibitions around the world and that they are seen as an opportunity to acquire new knowledge and experiences outside the classroom.
