The summer season brings important changes to the market of housing rented for tourist purposes. Thus, only officially registered homes will appear on the online platforms that mediate tourist accommodation offers. Other measures include requiring owners to issue a tax receipt.
Accommodations operating as hotels will be regulated by legislation adopted at European level and aims to eliminate unfair competition and obtain official data on the actual number of tourists in each country.
The owners of apartments or buildings that they rent as a hotel will be required to issue tax receipts, but also to declare them in an official register.
National Association of Agencies of Tourism (ANAT) supports the new legislation.
“It is a change that was necessary, to bring to the surface, on the one hand, those who travel and we have interests in knowing how many foreigners we have in Romania, and, on the other hand, from the point of view of the state, to collect their fees and taxes”, explained Cristian Bărhălescu, the president of ANAT, quoted by observernews.ro.
When registering the homes offered for rent, the owners will receive a fiscal code unique identification, which will also be displayed in the online rental platforms. Unregistered accommodations will no longer appear on Airbnb, Booking.com and other platforms.
The implementation of the measures will be carried out in stages, the first step being the implementation of the record keeping system of homes available for hotel rental.
