Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has flown to Kazan to attend the Russia-ASEAN summit, after which he will depart for an official visit to Ashgabat. The Malaysian prime minister announced this on his social media page.
“I’m heading to Kazan to attend the ASEAN-Russia Summit. I also plan to meet with President Vladimir Putin and attend the Russia-ASEAN Business Forum,” he wrote.
According to Ibrahim, after his visit to Russia, he will travel to Ashgabat at the invitation of Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
The Russia-ASEAN summit will be held in Kazan from June 17 to 19. ASEAN comprises Brunei, East Timor, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Myanmar, Thailand, and the Philippines.
As previously reported, Turkmenistan is preparing to host the Malaysian Prime Minister on an official visit. The progress of preparations for the visit was reviewed at a government meeting attended by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
Kuala Lumpur is a long-standing trade and economic partner of Ashgabat. The results of Ibrahim’s visit are expected to further expand bilateral relations and elevate them to a new level.
This year also marks the 30th anniversary of Petronas’ operations in Turkmenistan. To mark this anniversary, a scientific conference and exhibition dedicated to Turkmen-Malaysian relations are planned in the country.
