Aoussard Province, April 28, 2026 (SPS) – Today, the nineteenth edition of the International Film Festival in Western Sahara began in Aoussard Province, in the presence of the President of the Republic, the Secretary-General of the Front, Mr. Ibrahim Ghali, members of the National Secretariat and the government, and foreign delegations from various countries.
The festival activities began with a welcome speech by the governor of the state, member of the National Secretariat, Khaira Blahi, in which she welcomed the President of the Republic, the delegations and the various attendees in this edition, stressing the importance of culture as a means of resistance and a weapon to introduce the Sahrawi issue and open important relations with the cultures of the world, noting the tremendous work of the Ministry of Culture in this field.
The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Culture, Mohamed Ghali, in a speech he delivered on behalf of the Minister of Culture, highlighted that the “In the Sahara” festival, which receives great national and international attention, is an occasion to show the peculiarities of Sahrawi culture and highlight the humanitarian and social aspects, as well as the advantages of the Sahrawi struggle and its unique experience in resisting the occupation, especially in this exceptional circumstance that the Sahrawi issue is going through.
Mohamed Ghali presented to the participants the broad outlines and major goals of this edition, focusing on the cultural objectives and political and social dimensions of this entitlement as a promising cultural and solidarity station.
The regional band of the state of Awsard presented a wonderful singing segment through a modern, revolutionary song, to which the audience responded enthusiastically.
Tonight, the audience watched the beginning of the cinematic screenings, where a film was shown covering the strike waged by activist Minto Haidar on the Canary island of Lanthrotti.
During the remaining days of the festival, which continues until May 3, a number of films that address the national issue are expected to be shown with a cinematic artistic vision by specialized directors and artists. (SPA)
