The Latvian 3×3 basketball team for the World Cup next week has been named, the Latvian Basketball Association (LBS) reports.
The men’s national team will be represented in the tournament Nauris MiezisKārlis Lasmanis, Francis Lācis and Zigmārs Raimo, while the Latvian women’s team includes Ketija Vihmane, Digna Strautmane, Marta Misčenko and Paula Cirša.
In the World Cup, 20 teams will compete in both men’s and women’s tournaments. In the first stage, the teams will compete in four subgroups, and the winners of the groups will qualify for the quarterfinals, while the second and third place winners will play each other in the round of 16 matches.
From June 1 to 7, both teams will compete in the World Cup in Warsaw, while in the middle of the month, the women’s team will have a European Cup qualification tournament in Bucharest.
Latvia’s 3×3 basketball players will start the Group B tournament on Tuesday, playing against the USA national team and the Polish team on June 2, while matches against the Czech Republic and Mongolia are scheduled for Thursday.
Meanwhile, Latvia’s 3×3 basketball players will play the first games of Group C on Monday, fighting against the Philippine national team and Italy, and on Wednesday the Latvian players will face China and Germany.
The Latvian men’s national team has so far competed in six World Cup tournaments. The best successes were achieved in 2018 and 2023, when silver and bronze medals were won, respectively. The Latvian team has been eliminated three more times in the quarterfinals.
The Latvian women’s national team competed in the World Cup in 2019 and also in 2025, when they managed to win a ticket in the qualification tournament. Both times there was one win in four games and the fight for the cup ended after the group stage.
