The Algerian national team achieved its first victory in the 2026 World Cup.
Coach Petkovic’s cubs won the second round match against the Jordanian team by two goals to one.
The Algerian national team had many opportunities at the beginning of the two matches, the most important of which was Mahrez’s chance and Shaybi’s shot, before the Jordanian national team was able to open the scoring field through Nizar Al-Rashdan in the 36th minute.
At the beginning of the second half, Petkovic made two changes, inserting Ben Bouali in place of Boudaoui, and Ben Taleb in place of Zerrougui, which gave greater balance to the midfield and attack.
The “Greens” continued their control and possession of the ball, while creating many dangerous opportunities, so substitute Ben Bouali was able to score the equalizer in the 69th minute.
Substitute Hajj Musa’s teammates maintained their control over the opponent, by advancing into his area and making attempts that almost resulted in a second goal.
In the 82nd minute, Guiri scored the second goal, which was followed by several other attempts, which were blocked by the Jordanian defense.
In the last minutes of the match, the opponent relied on quick counterattacks, which did not pose a threat to the “Greens”, especially with the back line being supported by substitutes Hajam and Belaid.
The match ended with a deserved victory for the “Greens”, through which they preserved their chances of qualifying, before facing Austria in the third and final round of the group stage.
