The dollar witnessed a strong rise and today is heading towards achieving its largest monthly gains in nearly a year.
The dollar broke the 1.14 level against the euro this week, and reached its strongest level in 13 months at $1.1325 overnight, before settling in Asian trading at about $1.1353.
At 161.73 yen, the dollar is narrowly approaching its highest level in more than four decades against the struggling Japanese currency.
The dollar index, which measures the performance of the US currency against a basket of six other major currencies, recorded its highest level in 13 months at 101.8 overnight, and began the Asian trading session at about 101.6.
The dollar also recorded its highest level in seven months against the British pound at $1.314, and its highest level in 11 months at 0.8139 Swiss francs.
The Australian dollar fell to the level of 0.6890 US dollars, and lost more than 1.8 percent since the beginning of the week.
The New Zealand dollar, which fell by 1.7 percent this week, settled at $0.5640, slightly higher than its lowest level in seven months, which was recorded yesterday, Wednesday, at $0.5631.
