The case of the accused teacher has an ending. Principal of the Elementary School Benkova v Inside decided to resign today. She announced it at a meeting of the school committee.
Eva Berešová employed a teacher at the school, although she knew that she was being prosecuted for sexually abusing a schoolgirl.
“Despite the fact that I did not break any law, I decided to take a step that, I hope, will calm the situation,” Berešová justified her abdication today.
The other fate of the headmistress was dealt with yesterday by the extraordinary School Council, which also includes parents’ representatives and members of parliament.
A part of the public has been calling for punishment for the director since yesterday. There was also information about the planned protest. MP Igor Kršiak wrote today about the need to convene an extraordinary assembly.
The case came to light after the activist Rudolf Olach drew attention to it. He is known to the public as a “pedophile hunter”.

She left school
The prosecuted teacher (37) resigned on Friday, she left ZŠ Benkova by agreement. She was charged with the crime of sexual abuse last September.
The case happened when she worked as a teacher at a primary school in a village near Nitra.
It was there that she had an unauthorized relationship with a then twelve-year-old student. POLICE he has access to a number of text messages they wrote to each other.
When the case spread, the teacher in the village school resigned. Last September, she got a job as a teacher and teaching assistant at an elementary school in Nitra.
She knew about it
“The employee in question no longer works at the school, and during her tenure there were no complaints or incidents from children, parents or colleagues,” the mayor wrote in a message addressed to the children’s parents on Monday.
Berešová knew about the criminal prosecution. This fact is said to have been reported to her by the employee herself.
“Subsequently, the director of the school checked the situation with the former employer and conducted interviews with the employees who came into contact with the educator, as well as with the educator herself,” Lenka Mareková from the town hall informed yesterday.
Based on all the information found, the director evaluated the security risk “and decided to continue the employment”.

He feels strong pressure
Berešová said today at the school committee that she has been feeling strong public and media pressure in recent days. She decided to resign because she does not want “the school to become a toy in the hands of politicians”.
The mayor Marek Hattas he spoke about the fact that the whole situation “became a highly emotional and, unfortunately, also a politicized topic”.
He informed that the director decided to resign from the post by mutual agreement. He sees this decision as an attempt to calm the situation and protect the school from further pressure.
They will strengthen the regulations
The school already assured all parents yesterday that “the teacher never came into contact with the children without the teacher present, and she was never alone with the students”.
Many question this statement, they consider it absurd.
The city announced yesterday that it will take measures to strengthen internal regulations, especially in the selection of employees. “The goal is to further increase the safety standards in schools.”
It is currently unknown what kind of reinforcement it is.
We asked if it was okay (at least on a moral and ethical level) that the director let a person accused of sexually abusing a schoolgirl work with children. We wanted to know if the city has internal regulations governing this.
“The internal regulations of the school do not regulate such a procedure. The principal of the school is a statutory representative and is responsible for all employment-legal relations. Not the founder,” responded Lenka Mareková from the town hall on Thursday.
She added that the school director has no legal obligation to consult or report similar facts to the founder.
From January 2026, the guidance of the Ministry of Education entitled “Process map for solving the stimuli of unethical behavior of pedagogical and professional employees in schools and school facilities” is in force.
“Even in this case, it is not a legal obligation, but a guideline,” noted Mareková.
Would it be OK without pressure?
It follows from the director’s statements that she would not have resigned if she had not felt strong media and public pressure. The mayor said that the whole situation “became a highly emotional and, unfortunately, a politicized topic”.
These statements seem absurd to many in the context of the situation. The question arises: would everything be fine if the case had not been brought to the attention of an activist and the media would not have covered it?
So according to the town hall, is it okay for a person who has been accused of child abuse to work at the school? “The situation is not acceptable from the city’s point of view,” Mareková responded today.
She added that the city considers it serious that the founder was not immediately informed, “for which the director bears full responsibility”.
