The Head of the High Council of State, Mohammed Takala, received on Wednesday in Tripoli an Italian parliamentary delegation headed by the Chairman of the Italian Parliamentary Committee for the Security of the Republic, Lorenzo Guerini, along with the Italian ambassador to Libya, Gianluca Alberini, and the accompanying delegation.
The two sides discussed the latest developments in Libya’s political landscape amid ongoing political stagnation, stressing the importance of advancing a serious political process based on national references, foremost among them the Libyan Political Agreement, and grounded in clear legal and constitutional foundations under the auspices of the UN Support Mission in Libya, in a way that preserves institutional legitimacy and enhances prospects for consensus among the parties.
Takala reaffirmed that any solution to the crisis must be based on respect for national will and the preservation of state institutions, prioritizing consensus over partial solutions. He stressed that achieving stability requires a balanced settlement that ends division and paves the way for fulfilling national entitlements.
The two sides also discussed ways to strengthen economic cooperation between Libya and Italy, support development and investment efforts, and expand partnerships in vital sectors in a way that serves mutual interests.
On the issue of illegal immigration, both sides emphasized the need to adopt a comprehensive approach that goes beyond security measures, including support for Libyan state institutions, strengthening their capacity in border management, and addressing the root causes of migration through development and humanitarian pathways that contribute to stability.
