Eight new main axes, more than 400 recommended measures and a 41 kilometer long core network: Esch wants to fundamentally redesign its previously patchy cycle path network. The city presented the corresponding study by “Schoeder & associés” and the Dutch company “Mobycon” to the local council on Friday. “We measure the quality of our cycle path network not at its strongest points, but at its weakest point,” explained transport alderman Meris Sehovic (“déi gréng”) when presenting the study.
This defines eight “bicycle corridors” with a total length of 41 kilometers. Only 38 percent of the intersections in the existing cycle path network are classified as safe for children. When it comes to route sections, the balance is even worse: only a quarter of the network meets the requirements, while 43 percent are rated as unsafe.
