He has been an integral part of Luxembourg politics for almost four decades. It is now clear: Jean-Marie Halsdorf is resigning from his position as mayor of Pétange. The former CSV minister confirmed on Monday Daily newspaper-Demand that he will resign from his mandate next year. Before that, he wants to complete a few projects. He will be succeeded by deputy mayor André Martins Dias.
Jean-Marie Halsdorf was first elected to the Petinger municipal council in 1988, and he held the mayor’s office from 2000 to 2004. He was also elected to the Chamber in 1994 and was Minister of the Interior and Defense from 2004 to 2013. From 2017 to 2023 he was an alderman in Petingen and since 2023 he has been mayor there again. (read)
