President of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Cycle Union (SVGCU), Shimano Bailey, has extended condolences to the Trinidad and Tobago cycling fraternity and by extension, those of the Caribbean on the passing of a cyclist with whom he himself had competed.
The tragic death of the master racer Trinidadian cyclist, during the opening of the Easter International Grand Prix, at Skinner Park, San Fernando, on Saturday, April 4, 2026, sent the cycling community around the region into deep shock.
Forty-four-year-old Colin Wilson, affectionately known throughout the region as “Creepy,” died after crashing during the competition.
Wilson reportedly was competing in a six-lap masters category race and was attempting to avoid a fallen rider when he collided with another cyclist and crashed into a metal fence, sustaining neck injuries. He was rushed to hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
“I am deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Colin ‘Creepy’ Wilson. Having had the honour of competing alongside him at the Tobago International Cycling Classic and the Elite Caribbean Cycling Championships, I knew Colin not only as a fierce competitor but as a true sportsman and a brother in the peloton,” Bailey stated.
“His passion for cycling and his presence on the road will never be forgotten. This is a tremendous loss to the Caribbean cycling community. On behalf of the SVG Cycling Union, I extend heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and the entire Trinidad and Tobago cycling fraternity. Ride on, Colin,” Bailey expressed following the tragedy that marred the weekend competition.
The three-day event was being hosted alongside both the Caribbean Cycling Championships and the American Track Cycling Championships.
