Niviaq Cornelius, author, came out on Thursday 23 April with a new podcast about suicide and suicide prevention.
Over 12 episodes, ‘Inuuneq Annernaraangat Podcast’, which is the name of the new podcast, unfolds the suicide problem in this country.
– The suicide prevention I have seen throughout all this time is very lacking. There is nothing out there that is tangible and easy to understand for the average citizen, she says.
So Niviaq Korneliussen would like to change that.
Although she has both worked with suicide through her books, art and various lectures, the podcast medium can do something that other media cannot, she believes.
– You can listen to podcasts while driving, while going for a walk or cooking. And I wanted to make it as easily accessible as possible – at the same time, of course, it also had to be the dragons to listen to, she says.

Niviaq Korneliussen has spoken to both researchers and psychologists, who share their knowledge about suicide prevention – but who also highlight the great lack of research in that area.
And then you also meet some of the people who themselves have tried to lose their loved ones to suicide. Something that has made a big impression on Niviaq Korneliussen.
– They have been really brave. It takes a lot from them to stand and tell their stories into a microphone, she says.
Personally, Niviaq Korneliussen has also found it extremely motivating to talk to some of the survivors.
– Even though life has been hard for them at an early age – they look forward. It brightens my mind, she says.
The motivation to take up the fight
‘Inuuneq Annernaraangat Podcast’ has been created through a collaboration with the Lions Club Nuuk, which has supported the project. You can listen to the podcast for free on Spotify and KNR.
What do you hope listeners take away from listening to the podcast?
– I really hope that they will listen to all of them, replies Niviaq Korneliussen.
In addition, she hopes that people will also find the courage to throw themselves into the fight and contribute to reducing the number of suicides – despite a system that has long failed.
– It shouldn’t be the case that people who need help have to go through a long waiting list before they can get help, she says and continues:
– Maybe we feel that we can’t do anything. But we can do that, we can all do that together.
